My picture books…

I’ve written and illustrated four books so far. I have 43 other ideas in my head. My next book, is about a snowman, a scarecrow and a robot or it might be the one about a pig, a dog and a cat. Although, my Monsters, Myths and other Malarkey is also a work in progress – which is now finished!

There lived a wizard, there lived a witch. One in a castle, one in a ditch. Can you tell which one’s witch?

My latest book, Monsters, Myths and other Malarkey is 38, A3 pages of full colour, full on, monsters! Other malarkey too! You’ll discover characters such as, Garden Shed Fred, Sir Trubadour Guff, Roalie the Goalie and the Wizard and the Witch. It’s not just a book to read though. It’s also a sketch book and a colouring book too.¬†

Then Blot roared with all his might as he bit off his head with a single bite…

One evening, sitting on the sofa, watching tv and eating biscuits (it’s what I do best) these words popped into my head, ‘Back in the day before time forgot, lived a dinosaur…’ I¬†wondered, ‘What rhymes with ‘forgot’? I chose ‘Blot’. That’s how Tyrranosaurus Blot was born. Because it rhymed with forgot. It wouldn’t work if I’d called him Marjorie.

Chew! Chew! Swallow! Swallow! Munch! Munch! is a story about a dinosaur called Blot. Blot eats everyone until one day, he stops eating everyone and ends up saving the world.

Lily climbed up a ladder onto a loitering cloud…

The Girl Who Caught The Sun is a tale about Lily. Lily was the only girl in school who couldn’t catch. Lily couldn’t even catch a cold.

I had this idea in my head for yonks. I had the plot and how the main character would look – with big red hair however, her name eluded me. I was in Sainsbury’s one day, loitering in the root vegetable aisle when a young girl dashed past me with big red hair. Her mum called after her, ‘Lily!’ The rest, as they say, is geography.

Have you ever blown off in front of your teacher?

The Boy Who Blew Off In The Wind, is based on a true story. When my kids were knee high to a grasshopper, Barns, my number 3 son had a school mate called Ali. Ali was quite small for his age and when he came for tea, I’d say to him, ‘Ali, have you blown off in the wind lately?’ How we laughed!

Anyway, this story is about a boy called Ali who keeps blowing off. It includes all manner of things: a robot, a shark, a Cornish pastie and a koala. Oh, and a fart…
